About Our Principal Consultant

Inclusant’s founder and principal consultant anupama jain specializes in cross-sector diversity, equity, and inclusion education (DEI), with an emphasis on community building, cultural competency, global awareness, and social justice.

She earned her undergraduate degree at Bryn Mawr College and a PhD in literary and cultural studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, after which anu spent more than a decade in higher education conducting original research, teaching varied topics, and supporting diversity initiatives.

Her scholarly affiliations have included Union College in upstate New York, Colby College in Maine, and the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. Her major publication is the book How to Be South Asian in America: Narratives of Ambivalence and Belonging(Temple University Press, 2011), which investigates storytelling and politics, the American Dream, Asian American immigration, gender, and racial economics.

Since 2011, anu has focused on collaborative community organizing and public humanities initiatives in Pittsburgh, partnering with diverse local groups and designing original programming such as Color Me Pgh, Scholars at Large, 12×12: Connecting Pittsburgh to the World.

She continues to teach at the University of Pittsburgh in the program for Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies on topics such as Gender & Leadership and Feminist Theory.

Her DEI practice is informed by passionate commitment to understanding structural barriers to equity, facilitating community partnerships, encouraging experiential learning, and practicing inclusion as an ongoing ethical project.
